The Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe

The Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) succeeded COBE to refine the mapping of cosmic microwave background radiation. Launched in 2001, WMAP is here seen leaving the Earth/Moon Orbit for a point, one million miles (1.5 million km) beyond the Earth to test current theories about the origin of the universe.
