The World Around Us

Evidence of water-laid rocks on Mars.

Evidence of water found at Melas Chasma, one of the large troughs of the Valles Marineris system on Mars. Two sets of water-lain rocks can be seen. The water-based processes created fans of debris with finger-like protrusions at the ends and sides of the fans. These are coloured to indicate their location. The channels through which water and sediment flowed can also be seen.
