The fossil skeleton of the first Archaeopteryx discovered, found at Langenaltheim, Baviaria in 1861. Now named Archaeopteryx lithographica as it was found in the very fine-grained rock then used in lithographic printing. It is confusingly known as the London specimen because it was purchased by the Natural History Museum there (BMNH 37001).
